Project Overview

To carry out these activities in these projects, Action Pour la Renaissance intends to Collect, evacuate solid and liquid household waste to the dumping sites previously set up by it in Goma, recycle and transform solid and liquid managerial waste for reuse. (In the medium term).

This activity will be accompanied by door-to-door sensitization sessions in churches, markets and other public places on the rules of hygiene in relation to the proper conservation and treatment of waste at home but also on other risky practices in reference to the routes of transmission of diseases. Emphasis will be placed on changing behaviors and practices to prevent WASH-related diseases. The impacts of poor household waste management are multiple and were identified during the assessment

Objectives

The scope is to reach all the beneficiary population in the 18 districts of the city of Goma with a vision for the contry D.R.Congo in general in large cities where there is urgency but lack of funding we are blocked.

The objective is to contribute to the sustainable improvement of sanitation, hygiene and health conditions of the populations and subsequently of their living conditions as well as their urban environment by ensuring the management of the whole household waste sector in the districts of the city of Goma:
– To valorize waste to the maximum in response to the economic needs of the populations and the improvement of their living environment
– To contribute to improve the policy of the city of Goma of protection of the lake environment and the protected area
– To contribute to improve the urban development policy and ecotourism

    Pre-collection is Mobilization of project stakeholders. We have already mobilized the actors and beneficiaries of the project, contact the local leader as the city hall and other actor of the implementations, some tools are already in place:

    1) 3 public dumpsites in the mapendo district, 5 public dumpsites in the alanine, kituku, virunga, kahembe, nyabushingo markets.
    2) A public garbage can to be installed for each bus stop kiosk in total 10 in the city and 2 at the signers traffic circle.

Project Milestones

To make small activities of sensitization and training to our mothers on the use of biodegradable waste as organic fertilizers.

ESG Impact

On the economic front:
– 5 ℅ increase in revenue through guaranteed employment,
– Increased food security,
– Increase in the level of organic agricultural production from natural intensification from composts and fertilizers
– Fight against deforestation and prevention of nature bio diversity.

Social impact: Reduction of diseases related to vectors, improvement of the living environment of the population, reduction of the dependence of vulnerable youth on their families,
Governance: Regulation of texts to avoid overlapping interventions in the implementation of the action plan

Rationale

The project will contribute to the creation of jobs for the fight against hunger; it will also fight against contagious and tropical diseases; contributes to the policy of the province to make the city clean; on the industry it is in the transformation of biodegradable waste into fertilizer and in the production of ember for the fight against deforestation.

Risks and Limitations

What are the key risks, constraints and dependencies related to the project?

The risk is the insecurity or the pandemic crisis in COVID-19. The strategies are to wait for the provincial government to restore peace in case it happens. The respect of the barrier measures and instructions of the government for the fight against the propagation of the disease.

Risk mitigation and continuity

No risk incurred in case of change of authorities because the law on the public private partnership in force in our country recognizes the partnership engages the institution not an individual.

Action for Rebirth in partnership with the Peace and Development Council organizes community work every Saturday under the leadership of the promoters in all decentralized territorial entities. Peace and Development Council of the City of Goma Commission on Environmental Protection has funded $500 in spending for small activities.
